Random ramblings from a guy who's enjoying the ride...my thoughts on what God's been teaching me lately...who know what might all show up here...I guess it's a place for me to keep a slightly more public version of my daily journaling. Verse of the Day

1 Peter 1:3-9

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new berth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."

On another note, please pray for Liane's sister-in-law Julie...as far as I know she hasn't had her baby yet (she was due on sunday). She's the first of like 8 or 9 women (including my sister!) in our church expecting babies this summer. SUper DuPer!

These boot were made for walkin'...

Did a little training for the big trip today...Liane and I hiked the Trans Canada trail from the section just west of Morden (by the Lake Trail) to Stanley Park and back. This was the first hike I've done with a close-to trip weight pack...weighed in at 55 lbs (25 kg on Liane's scale). I can hardly lift it with one arm...Liane has to help me get it on my back. I'm guessing it'll be 60 lbs when I've got everything for the trip, but it will get significantly lighter during the day as I drink the water (we have to carry at least 8 litres of water every day because there's no water supply along the trail). I can hardly wait...it's less than four weeks away now. I think I might be able to get used to the weight, and hopefully I can train quick enough to handle the roughly 15 miles a day we'll be hiking, but I'm not sure how I'll handle the heat. Everyone I've spoken to who has done the trail says it's ruthlessly hot after May, and we're going at the end of June, beginning of July. Normally I enjoy the heat (anything less than 35C is fine by me), but when you're lugging 60 lb over 15 miles, heat can do some nasty things. blisters. chafing. rash. no water for showers. yee haw.

But did I mention I'm really excited? This is about as close to an 'expedition' as I may ever get.

May 29th in Photographs

What a great day...started with some guy from Grace Mission sharing what God is doing in Haiti...pretty amazing stuff...had a great time playing with the worship team...for lunch the c&c came over for a potluck bbq, and then spent a few hours sitting on the deck catching some sun and looking at the awesome clouds. I love the nice fluffy clouds that are really dark and super bright white at the same time. Then Liane and I went to Heinrich & Irene's place for another bbq...this time a birthday party for Irene. It was soo good. I could hardly eat anything though...let's just say I had a little too much for lunch :) After supper we did some singing, and that was really cool. They got out a bunch of the kids toys, and we had a whole band goin' on! Heinrich had a drum, Lea had a shaker, Rudi and Heinrich had a tambourine, and I played guitar. It actually sounded really good! I love it when we sing at Liane's family gatherings. This time we didn't sing any german songs, but it was still really good. After everyone else had left, Heinrich, Irene, the kids, Liane, and I went for a walk in the shire. Heinrich and I both had our cameras with us, and it turned out to be more of a photo shoot than a walk...sorry girls! On the way back to the house Lea's prodigal cat Kisly found her and returned home. We looked at some baby pictures of Noah and Lea for a while, and then had some tea and cake. Yummo! Yup, pretty good day indeed. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Kian was learning to walk yesterday, and it was so cute! He had the absolute biggest smile on his face the whole time...and he didn't want to stop! My bet is by the end of the week he'll be walking without help.

so with summer upon us and beautiful evenings to be spent around a fire pondering life and saving the world, we needed some fuel. Spent the afternoon cutting down trees with my Uncle Ken & Zach, Uncle Glen & Ryan, Derek, and Matt, my Dad, Bruce, and Keith. We cut enough to fill four half ton boxes. Should be enough for a couple of weeks :) Check out a few of the pictures here. Whaddya think of this pic? It's actually a combination of six pictures I took while the tree was falling. I didn't use a tripod so it was a little hard to line them up exactly, and I'm not quite sure how to blend them together properly, but I think it's kinda cool.
