Random ramblings from a guy who's enjoying the ride...my thoughts on what God's been teaching me lately...who know what might all show up here...I guess it's a place for me to keep a slightly more public version of my daily journaling. I'm Baaaack!

Wow, what a weekend. Quite eventful indeed. I have to go to sleep now, but here's a quickie.

The hiking/camping at Riding Mountain National Park was absolutely awesome. God is amazing. It was so beautiful. And definitely, without a doubt, the hardest, most challenging hike I have ever done in my life. Probably the most physically demanding thing I have done ever. Good times indeed.

So we get back to Mark W's place in the city and I carry all my gear to the car...I was carrying my hiking backpack, a daypack, my camera bag, and my boots. I put it all on the trunk of my car while I got my keys out. Unlocked the door....into the car goes the backpack, the other backpack, the boots....STUPID ME I FORGOT THE CAMERA ON THE TRUNK!

Driving home now. No more than two minutes later I was going to call someone on my cell which was in my camera bag. I look beside me. I glance in the back seat. Panic sets in. I pull to the side of the road and turn the light on. Nothing. Pulled the fastest u-turn and sped back to Mark's place. Nothing. Not a fun ride home.

Turns out that my mom tried calling my cell while I was on the way home, and a girl answered. She had found my camera and had turned on the cell. Smart girl. Unfortunately the camera had been driven over by a car or something. Not totally sure, 'cause I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully I can pick it up monday. I feel like a parent whose child is hurt, but they can't help them, 'cause they're somewhere else. Poor camera. I just hope my compact flash cards are ok, 'cause I got some SWEET pictures on the trip.

Ok bubye.

The good stuff

Oh man, the excitement builds by the minute. Tomorrow morning, bright and early, Mark Westman, Dawson Kroeker, Mark Thiessen, and myself are heading to Riding Mountain Provincial Park. What a great way to celebrate Easter...spend some time with God in His creation! I am pumped!

And when I'm pumped, I can get a lot accomplished. Here's what I've done this morning:

Devo's
Grocery shopping
4 loads of laundry
Washed a fair amount of dishes
Hauled out all my camping gear and started packing
Made pizza
Cleaned up the house
Got the car ready for the trip
Cleaned and waterproofed my boots and shoes
Etc.

Did I mention I'm excited? I haven't been to Riding Mountain since Nat and I went on a two week moutanin biking trip 8 years ago. I don't have any pictures from then, but I remember it being a beautiful place to be. We saw so much wildlife too...bears, moose, birds, all sorts of stuff.

The only downside to the trip is I'm gonna miss the Thiessen gathering. I always look forward to those gatherings...

Current Song Playing: Entertaining Angels by Common Children

It's getting late in the evening (and I really don't mind at all)
And I'm grateful one more time
Wish I could freeze this feeling (before the stars burn out and fall)
Photograph this state of mind.....

The world is almost turned now (and I really don't mind at all)
The first glimpse of morning light
Raise my hands to the sky now (watch the stars burn out and fall)
Throw the past out with the night

Love this song...it's gonna be in my head this weekend for sure...
Anywhooos, pizza's done so I gotta run.

Hope you all take some time this weekend to remember what Jesus Christ did for you...sacrified himself to a violent death, and then came back to life three days later to pay a debt we could never pay. They should call this weekend Thanksgiving instead of Easter. What is an easter anyways?

Lyric Of The Day

Today's song "Good As Gold" is from the new Bleach CD "Farewell Old Friends". Highly recommended :) You can listen to a low quality stream of the song here.

Good As Gold
- Bleach -

Sunshine come and do your shining
You're welcome to come and make your place
This eclipse petitions on my weak lips
And I'm looking for clearing in this haze

I'll take it as it comes
I'll chance it all because

The one thing that I know
The one thing that I'l always hold
Is my only reason is good as gold

Sweetness bitter change to weakness
And I'm raising my eyes above the swells
Sweetness, oh the sweetness
And I'm raising my eyes up to the hills

I'll take it as it comes
I'll cance it all because

The one thing that I know
The one thing that I'll always hold
Is my only reason is good as gold

When I'm up and when I'm low

Here's a couple of verses that come to mind when I hear this song.

Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from ?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip -
He who watches over you will not slumber.

Psalm 145
The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

When God makes a promise, you can count on it 100% - it's good as gold.
