Liane and I are gettin' hitched!
Gotta run! Cya!
Random ramblings from a guy who's enjoying the ride...my thoughts on what God's been teaching me lately...who know what might all show up here...I guess it's a place for me to keep a slightly more public version of my daily journaling. Gotta run! Cya!
Well, I just sat down to jot a little post, but I just looked at the clock and apparently it's 10:46. Not a big deal, but then I turned around and saw the rather large pile of dishes that just won't wash themselves. So it's up to me.
Just got back from a small group leaders training meeting at church. We have them once a month, and they are always so good. It's refreshing, scary, challenging, encouraging, etc. all at the same time. God's work is so huge and we are so weak. But he doesn't ask us to do it all for him, he just wants us to join him where he's already at work. So that's what we try to do. It really blows my mind to see what God has done, and will continue to do through a few committed people.
Anywhoos, hope you have a good night!
it's been a while again...thought I could appease you all with a few pictures, but I guess it's just not good enough!
I don't really want this blog to become strictly a rundown of what goes on in my life...I'd like to include more stuff on what I'm learning, thinking, you know? Deeper stuff than how much fun I had on the weekend. But it is a "good" way for me to keep those of you whom I don't see quite as often informed of what's going on with me. And I say "good" because ideally I'd rather see you all face to face, but hey, we're all too busy right? It's kind of been a struggle for Liane and I too...there are so many people we'd love to get together with just to do whatever, but there are only so many days in a week! So if you want to get together with us, it might take an invitation! Or if you're one of the lucky few, you might even get an invitation to my place!
So Liane was over yesterday, and I must say, we're getting pretty darn good at making Kielke. We did discover that somehow Liane is better at rolling the dough and cutting the noodles though...I made the dough, but we each rolled and cut half of it, and my noodles all stuck together like crazy, and hers were perfect. I also didn't know it was possible to have Kielke with anything other than farmer sausage, but guess what! chicken breasts work pretty good too!
Anywhoos, a certain amount of recap is necessary I think, as it was a pretty good weekend.
Friday night a whole bunch of us from church went to the Fisher Bay Bible Camp banquet. It was pretty good. James Thiessen talked for a while. The combination of his talk, and seeing a bunch of pictures from camp really made me want to move to the Interlake region. Don't know exactly what it is that draws me to that place, but it's really cool...I guess you'd have to understand a little bit about this James Thiessen guy...I don't know him well, but I've met him a bunch of times at the FBBC work weekend, and he spoke at our men's retreat last fall. He reminds me a lot of my dad.
So after the banquet we went out for ice cream. It sure wasn't the best ice cream I've ever had, but hey, it was ice cream. And I broke my watch. And I got kind of cold after a while 'cause I was wearing shorts.
Saturday was a lot of fun. Spent almost the whole day outside...Liane and I did just about everything we could think of doing outside...went for a bike ride, I ran while she rollerbladed, and then after the dinner theatre we went for a walk. It was such a beautiful day. So the dinner theatre was absolutely hilarious. I can not believe how good of a job the Cross Current students/staff do of putting it on every year. They must work at it like nobody's business. I was impressed to say the least. Apparently it was sold out every night.
Sunday had to be the most fun of all though. Speaking of fun, that reminds me of something Mike said during sunday school that I was going to write about on here yet, but I haven't had the time to really think about it yet...remind me!) So yeah, we had a birthday party for Liane's mom. We had a barbecue, and well, that was a great time by itself! The craziest thing was what happened after lunch. A few of us...(Alex, Heinrich, Rudi and Nelly, Joel, Noah, Leah, Liane and myself) went for a walk to the playground at the Reinfeld COMMUNITY CENTER. When we got there, there were a few vehicles there which is not unusual for a sunday afternoon since it is also used by a church. There was one kid playing on the field with a soccer ball, and I believe two kids playing on the playground. The swings were empty. So we played on the swings, Rudi played with Joel on the slides. We hadn't been playing for more than five minutes - just long enough to give a few under-ducks and snap a few pictures - when two very angry guys came out of the community center and demanded that we leave immediately. The said that we were using the playground so their kids couldn't play on the slides or the swings. It was hilarious, because these guys were so mad. The one guy said something about renting the place, and they want their money back, and their kids can't play, and blah blah blah. They asked why we were on the playground when we could tell it was rented...we tried to explain that it is normally used by a church, and that because it's a community centre that there are always people there, and that we didn't know better, 'cause there was no sign that said it was rented or reserved. By now I was getting pretty mad, very mad actually. I couldn't believe these guys. Heinrich and Alex very quickly and politely apologized and said we would leave right away. If they hadn't been so calm and polite, and I think I would have given these guys a piece of my mind (not that I have any to spare! ;) So we left. I was actually really impressed the way Heinrich and Alex handled it...I was burning up inside! We had barely walked down the road when we saw a bunch of vehicles leaving, and the playground empty!
Anywhoos, I'm over it, right!? Right. So we went back to Liane's place and ate even more food then yet uh huh, and then we sang a bunch of songs again, which I'm really starting to enjoy. Most of the songs that we did were in German, but reading German is fairly easy...I just don't know what I'm singing :)
Soooo....ok, I'm tired...that's gonna have to be enough for tonight!
Hope you all have an awesome day tomorrow!
