John 14 & 15

I was reading in John today, and there was so much in those two chapters, I couldn't go any farther, I just kept reading 'em over and over.  Jesus showed so much concern and love for his disciples in his last days on earth.  I get the feeling that he wants desperately to tell them more, or to somehow engrave his words in their mind so they won't forget.  Such awesome stuff he had to say...I wonder how the disciples took it all in.  Here's the low-down on these two chapters:  First Jesus comforts his disciples by telling them he's coming back for the.  He says he'll do anything they ask in his name.  I know too many times I've claimed that verse when praying for stuff I didn't really need...not exactly what he had in mind, given the context of the verses.  He then calls them his friends (as opposed to them calling him master & teacher) and he promises an awesome love-relationship with those who love him and obey him.  He lets them know that apart from him they are powerless and futile, but if they're in fellowship with him, they've got the power to change the world.  He gives the 2nd greatest commandment, to love others, and says there is no greater love than laying down one's life for a friend.  Funny how he should mention that just b4 he gave his life for us.  he then closes with a dose of reality saying that the world will hate them, just like it hates him, but he will send the Holy Spirit who will testify with them and be their comfort.  I think all of the stuff in these chapters applies to us if we are Christ's disciples, and that's a pretty exciting thought to me!  Read the chapters for yourself, and let me know what you think!

Hey Warren! This is kinda of funny. I was just going back and reading some of your old posts and I came upon this one. I've been reading in those very chapters just in the last few days. John cahpters 14-17 are my favorite chapters. It was encouraging to read this now and see your thoughts.
